Is micellar water really a leave-in cleanser?
Actually, not quite, because micellar water contains PAM* (surfactants) which...foam! Take the micellar water and shake it vigorously. The result? Lots of ...foam! However, it depends on the nature of the PAM (quickly reactive, neutral or well tolerated), as well as on the amount of ethyl oxide or 1.4 dioxane found in their composition and their concentration.

They are non-ionic (according to dermatological publications, this is the mildest PAM) and there is no trace of either ethyl oxide or 1.4 dioxane.

What is a micelle? Micelle [lat. mica — crumb, particle], is composed of a hydrophilic "head" (attracts water) and a lipophilic "tail" (attracts fat). See illustration.
How are micelles formed? Micellar water is an emulsion… unfinished. In other words, it is an unfinished emulsion with no fat and only a small amount of PAM* (a lotion made up of water, fat and PAM). The process is as follows: we add enough PAM to the water to form enough PAM molecules to form spherical microparticles called micelles.
What is the size of the micelles? Their size can vary: from 300 to 300,000 times thinner than a hair...
